What we feed our fish

Growel

Highly proteinaceous and pelleted feeds are provide to nourish the GIFT Tilapia fishes of Marrian Farms. The fishes are provided with pellet feed manufactured by the Growel Fish Feeds Company. These pellets provide high protein and better growth rate in fishes. The pellets are of varying size range ranging from 0.5mm to 4.0mm size and protein level ranging from 40% to 28%.

Egg

To provide an additional source of protein for the fishes, they are fed with eggs. The raw eggs are beaten thoroughly and mixed in the ratio of 20g per kg of feed before being fed to the fishes.

Zooplankton

The best feed for the fishes at the juvenile stage of their growth are phytoplanktons and zooplanktons. The fishes mostly feed on these planktons from the day of release to the pond for one month. These planktons act as an additional source of nutrition to the fishes. To facilitate the growth of the planktons in the pond, the water is mixed with 100kg of cow dung in 200L water and the slurry formed is  released to the pond.

Salt

The major highlight of Tilapia culturing is that the flesh has a salty taste, which consumers have a liking towards. Normally, Tilapia doesn’t require salt for their growth but fishes at Marrian Farms are trained to survive at about 5ppm salinity. The salt also acts as an agent to clean the surface bacterial load in the fish body.
